New uranium head for Sibanye-Stillwater

Greg Cochran will join the Sibanye-Stillwater team as executive vice president head of uranium from June 1.

The role will see Cochran be responsible for developing strategies to realise and optimise the value of Sibanye’s uranium resources.

Cochran will bring over three decades of experience to the position, having held a position on Uranium One’s South Australian team while guiding the Boss Energy’s Honeymoon uranium mine through environmental approvals.

“With solid fundamentals currently underpinning the uranium market, we will be assessing various options to realise value from our existing 32 million pounds of uranium resources on surface at the Cooke tailings dam, and 27 million pounds of uranium resource at Beatrix 4,” Sibanye-Stillwater chief executive officer Neal Froneman said.

“We are confident that Greg will deliver on this potential.”

Cochran has led other uranium companies in the past, including Namibian-focused Deep Yellow. He was most recently in the role of managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Aurora Energy. Before Aurora, he was the CEO of Reward Minerals, a sulphate of potash development company.

Cochran was also a part of the due diligence team on Uranium One’s $C3.8 billion acquisition of UrAsia Ltd in 2007, the largest uranium transaction in history. He was also responsible for the integration and management of the Kazakh joint venture interests.
