Both Spartan Resources and Glencore have ended the week with a suite of board changes.
Spartan Resources
Deanna Carpenter has been appointed to the Spartan board as an independent non-executive director.
Carpenter brings 15 years of experience to the role, having worked as a lawyer with a focus on equity capital markets and mergers and acquisitions.
John Hodder has tendered his resignation as a non-executive director, effective from March 20. Hodder was appointed as a representative from major shareholder Tembo Capital and has been serving on the board for the past 12 months.
Spartan chair Rowan Johnston welcomed Carpenter and thanked Hodder for his service to the role.
“We are pleased to welcome Deanna to the board of Spartan as we look to diversify and refresh the talent, independence, skills and experience of the directors,” Johnston said.
“Deanna brings strong experience in the resources sector having served on or acted for many ASX listed resource companies.
“The company and board has also greatly benefited from John’s wise counsel and experience and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution in helping to establish Spartan on the exciting growth path the company is now on.
“On behalf of the board, we extend our sincere thanks to John and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Glencore
The coal miner has announced that Peter Coates will be retiring from his role on the board. Coates joined the board in 2011 and chaired the HSEC Committee from the beginning.
“Peter’s retirement marks the end of two long eras,” Glencore chairman Kalidas Madhavpeddi said.
“First, it ends a career in mining that goes back more than half a century. Second, it completes a thirty-year association with Glencore, which started in 1994 when he was appointed to lead Glencore’s then embryonic coal industrial business.
“All of the board joins me in wishing Peter a long and happy retirement.”
John Wallington has been appointed as an independent non-executive director, effective from June 1.
Wallington brings over four decades of experience to the role, having held positions as chief executive officer of Anglo Coal, Coal of Africa and Riversdale Resources.
“The directors are very pleased to welcome John Wallington to the board,” Madhavpeddi said.
“We believe it is crucial that we have several non-executive directors who know the industry well and who can appraise and challenge decision making from a technical as well as a commercial perspective.
“John has spent his entire career in the mining industry and we look forward to benefiting from his skills and experience.”
