Rio Tinto non-executive director Megan Clark has resigned from her position, taking effect from December 15.
Clark is a geologist and business executive who has served on the Rio Tinto board for nine years. As a board member, she served as chair of the sustainability committee and was a member of the remuneration committee since 2016.
Clark was also the first female director of CSIRO from 2009 to 2014, and previously held roles at BHP Billiton and the Western Mining Corporation.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Megan for her contribution to Rio Tinto,” Rio Tinto chair Dominic Barton said.
“We will greatly miss her insights and wise counsel. On behalf of the board, I wish Megan well for the future.”
Clark’s departure comes as the major miner appoints Elias Scafidas as its managing director of battery materials. Scafidas was Rio Tinto’s chief financial officer – copper and diamonds. Scafidas will begin his role from the start of 2024.
Rio Tinto has also recently appointed a new chief operating officer for its Diavik diamond mine in Canada. Matthew Breen will transition into the position after working as the Diavik diamond mine’s general manager of operations.
After being appointed as a non-executive director on October 25, James ‘Joc’ O’Rourke will stand for election at Rio Tinto’s annual general meeting in 2024.
Former Rio Tinto aluminium chief executive Ivan Vella has also officially left the company to join IGO as managing director.
