Orica strengthens support for RACQ Rescue helicopter

Orica will continue to support the RACQ central Queensland (CQ) Rescue helicopter service in the central Queensland community for a further three years.

Demonstrating its commitment to the community and the rescue service, Orica increased its sponsorship level from major to platinum in 2023.

Orica now celebrates over a decade of dedicated partnership with CQ Rescue, showcasing its commitment to the safety and well-being of Central Queensland’s residents, workers, and the wider community.

The partnership between Orica and RACQ CQ Rescue has a deeply rooted history, stemming from an incident in September 2010 involving one of Orica’s employees.

The employee suffered an injury on a mine site in central Queensland, prompting his airlift by RACQ CQ Rescue to the hospital.

“Orica has provided support to RACQ CQ Rescue for over a decade and with our increased sponsorship, they can continue to deliver this vital service to the community,” Orica vice president Australia Pacific coal John Cooper said.

“Our employees have generously contributed to the cause as well, with Orica matching every employee donation, dollar for dollar through our ‘Dare to Share’ payroll deduction program.”

RACQ CQ Rescue chief executive officer Tim Healee expressed gratitude for Orica’s increased and ongoing support, emphasising its importance in ensuring the service’s availability to anyone, anywhere, anytime across central Queensland.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have such vital support from such a high-profile partner,” Healee said.

“Orica’s commitment allows us to provide a world-class aeromedical helicopter service that operates 24–7, 365 days a year, benefiting residents, workers, and visitors in central Queensland.

“RACQ CQ Rescue plays a crucial role in emergency support for all workers and residents in the region, and it’s reassuring to know that organisations like Orica truly appreciate the value of supporting our helicopter.

“With their commitment, we can continue to provide our vital, lifesaving service to anyone in a time of crisis.”

Orica area business manager north surface coal Jessica Arnold highlighted the company’s comprehensive approach to support.

“We are honoured to stand alongside RACQ CQ Rescue in their life-saving mission,” she said.

“Through our increased sponsorship, employee engagement programs, and participation in fundraising events, we strive to make a tangible difference in the communities we serve.”

Orica will proudly support the CQ Rescue annual gala fundraising dinner in August, further solidifying its dedication to the cause and commitment to the central Queensland community.
